S.Caterina di Nardo'

The city has very ancient roots and strong testimonies, which span every era starting from prehistoric times. Santa Caterina was born as a defensive outpost against the attacks of the Saracens.

Many artifacts and testimonies have been found throughout its territory, especially in the “Bay of Uluzzu”, where there are several caves, including the significant ones of Uluzzu and del Cavallo.

The territory of Santa Caterina is bordered to the north by the splendid Torre dell’Alto and to the south by the naturalistic park of Portoselvaggio, now a regional park and protected area.
The highest point is called ‘Madonna dell’Alto‘ where the homonymous tower is located, unfortunately abandoned but visibly evocative.
Santa Caterina di Nardò can boast landscapes of undisputed environmental and naturalistic value, such as the beautiful equipped beach, the quiet and verdant pine forest, the natural caves and a crystal clear sea.

Characteristic are the rugged and wild cliffs that plunge into a crystalline sea rich in fresh water springs. A series of caves, coves and rocky ravines give a particular charm to this area and Portoselvaggio, is the ideal place for a relaxing walk to have a true contact with unspoiled and wild nature.
