Porto Badisco

Porto Badisco is a well-known seaside resort located in the territory of the municipality of Otranto, in the province of Lecce.

Tourist destination of considerable historical and landscape interest, overlooking the Adriatic Sea. Legend has it that this is the place where Aeneas landed during his long wanderings after the fall of Troy.

Porto Badisco is a small fishing village, sparsely inhabited in winter and which in summer is filled with visitors and tourists, attracted by the splendor of the particularly clean sea and by the surroundings full of interesting and exciting attractions.Among the spectacular images of the coast you can note the coves and ravines of rare beauty such as the Marmitta dei Giganti, symbols of felt karst and erosive phenomena and rich in characteristic nesting flora and fauna. In Porto Badisco there is also the Grotta dei Cervi, which contains important drawings made with Neolithic bat guano. In the direction of Santa Cesarea-Castro-Leuca, moreover, there is the so-called “Grotta delle Striare”, that is the cave of the witches, characteristic for the entrance crossed diagonally by a tongue of rock.

Of particular beauty is the inlet that opens just behind the tourist resort, a stretch of sea that goes from intense blue to deep blue, surrounded by low cliffs behind which the Mediterranean scrub and pine forests with the sweet fragrances of myrtle, thyme, sage, wild fennel. To close this spectacular picture, the typical olive trees, prickly pears, oleanders, palm trees and oaks. Inside there are the valleys and the reliefs that with the clear architectures and the dry stone walls give rise to a surprising panorama of colors typical of the country.

The sea is full of fish and attracts many fishing enthusiasts, and the seabed is a paradise for divers and for those who love diving with mask and fins.

For those wishing to make an excursion there is no shortage of interesting destinations to be reached in the day.

To find a beach you have to head north, passing Otranto, to find some truly exceptional ones, such as the Conca Specchiulla beach, and, even further north, the beautiful stretches of sand of the Alimini Lakes, where you can also find bathing establishments equipped with all the comforts.
